The Halpern
This white linen in our alternative pronoun guest book series is named to honour the couples who fought to redefine the legal definition of marriage in the Halpern v. Canada court case. On June 10, 2003, the Court of Appeal ruled unanimously that the existing definition of marriage, as a union between “one man and one woman” was unconstitutional and would be changed to “the voluntary union for life of two persons to the exclusion of all others”. “Once you have marriage you have full equality.
